What’s New?
Happy New Year!

We would like to wish all of our 2011 customers a very happy New Year, and look forward to seeing you again in 2012.  2011 was a very busy year for us, with the Christmas period fully booked by early October (we could have filled a cattery twice the size), and bookings for 2012 are already growing steadily.  If you want to be sure of booking a room for your cat(s) when you go on holiday this year, please book early.

Thinking of paying by Cheque?

Due to the withdrawal of the cheque guarantee card and the cost of bank charges, we regret that we can no longer accept cheques for under £50.

Fairmile Cat Hotel
Luxury Cattery in East Devon

Are you looking for a cattery in Exeter?  Or perhaps a cattery in Honiton?  The Fairmile Cat Hotel is a luxury boarding cattery in Ottery St. Mary in the East Devon countryside providing a superior standard of accommodation, tasty nutritious meals and high quality personal service.  We would like to think that we are the best of all the local catteries in Devon.  Situated only a 1/2 mile from the A30 at Patteson's Cross, the Fairmile Cat Hotel is 1 mile north of Ottery St. Mary, 5 miles west of Honiton and only 12 miles east of Exeter.  So if you are looking for a cattery in Sidmouth or a cattery in Budleigh Salterton, we could be just what you would like to give your cat a great holiday.  Some of our customers recognise the quality of care we provide and came to us in preference, say, to a cattery in Lyme Regis or a cattery in Axminster.  Our catchment area also includes Seaton, Chard, Ilminster, Talaton, Feniton, Bluehayes, Whimple, Farringdon, Woodbury Salterton, Cowley, Pinhoe, Whipton, Broadclyst, Sowton, Heavitree, Brampford Speke, Offwell, Alfington and Cullompton.

A Great Start - 30 June 2010

Our first month open has been very successful, and we have been between 1/4 and 1/2 full for almost the entire month of June.  July and August are now starting to fill up also, so if you are going on holiday during these peak months and haven't yet booked your cat into a cattery, now is the time to phone us up and arrange to come and see just why you can feel safe leaving your cat with us whilst you enjoy your own holiday.  Visit us during our opening hours or by appointment please to ensure that we have time to show you around and answer any questions.

Female Greater Spotted WoodpeckerWild Life Visitors

Our tranquil dedicated cattery bird garden is designed to attract the local flying wildlife, with plenty of bird feeding points and even a couple of nesting boxes at the ends of the walkways.  But I don't think we ever expected to have such splendid visitors as a pair of Greater Spotted Woodpeckers who just love the fat block hanging from the feeding station in the centre of the garden.  We are sure that both feline and human visitors love to watch them feed as much as we do!

Finishing Touches

Whilst the cattery units themselves are completed and fully ready for use by our feline guests, we are continuing to tidy up where our builders have left minor scars in the landscape.  My partner Paul is cladding the outside of the cattery base with μPVC so that it blends in with the rest of the cattery, and then we will level and seed the soil outside to regrow the grass.

We plan to enhance the cattery garden still further when we have time in order to provide even more entertainment for our guests.

Our Open Day was a Great Success

Our Open Day on Saturday 29 May was a GREAT success.  Despite the heavy and frequent rain showers we had a steady stream of visitors, and 20 confirmed bookings.  Almost everyone who visited commented on how wonderful both the accommodation and garden were.  Those who knew their holiday dates booked on the spot, and those that didn’t took a booking form away to fill in later.  One or two people even phoned up later and made a second booking.  Due to requests from customers we have even brought our opening forward two days to Sunday 30 May.

Finally we are ready for our Open Day...

With the help of some good friends and some dedicated tradesmen, our new Cat Hotel is finally ready for the Open Day tomorrow. We have spent the last three days frantically cleaning what seems to be mile after mile of never-ending white μPVC. But in the end we got it all cleaned and it looks (literally) brilliant!

Special thanks need to go to Sue, Keith, Simon and Andy all of whom gave their all to help us to be ready to open on time - and special thanks to Simon who worked solidly despite a painful hip.

We also want to give special thanks to the local tradesmen whose work has been to such a high standard:

  • East Devon Plumbing for the floor tiling and cattery kitchen;
  • AJP Services for the cattery electrics;
  • Dave Drew for the cattery garden fence and walkway;
  • Pedigree Pens, the UK’s premier cattery manufacturer, of course for the cattery itself; and finally ...
  • My partner Paul for our centerpiece water feature.

The grass seed is sprouting nicely on our new car-park.  This will be to the side of our driveway and specially constructed to allow rainwater to penetrate whilst being strong enough to support lorries and looking like lawn!  This after all is our home as well and we really didn’t want it to look like a supermarket car park.

We are working on the cattery garden and building the large water feature as well as organising and planning planting.  Our small seedlings are growing stronger ready to go into the 20 flower pouches and baskets and tubs.  My special project is my topiary cat ready to sit by the cattery door!  She is a bit skinny at the moment but will fatten up now the warmer weather is here I hope.
