Making a booking for your cat

What you need to do and our Terms and Conditions

What’s New?
Happy New Year!

We would like to wish all of our 2011 customers a very happy New Year, and look forward to seeing you again in 2012.  2011 was a very busy year for us, with the Christmas period fully booked by early October (we could have filled a cattery twice the size), and bookings for 2012 are already growing steadily.  If you want to be sure of booking a room for your cat(s) when you go on holiday this year, please book early.

Thinking of paying by Cheque?

Due to the withdrawal of the cheque guarantee card and the cost of bank charges, we regret that we can no longer accept cheques for under £50.

Collection and Delivery

Because we are now so busy, we are sorry but we are no longer able to offer collection and delivery as a standard service.

Fairmile Cat Hotel
Luxury Cattery in East Devon

Are you looking for a cattery in Exeter?  Or perhaps a cattery in Honiton?  The Fairmile Cat Hotel is a luxury boarding cattery in Ottery St. Mary in the East Devon countryside providing a superior standard of accommodation, tasty nutritious meals and high quality personal service.  We would like to think that we are the best of all the local catteries in Devon.  Situated only a 1/2 mile from the A30 at Patteson's Cross, the Fairmile Cat Hotel is 1 mile north of Ottery St. Mary, 5 miles west of Honiton and only 12 miles east of Exeter.  So if you are looking for a cattery in Sidmouth or a cattery in Budleigh Salterton, we could be just what you would like to give your cat a great holiday.  Some of our customers recognise the quality of care we provide and came to us in preference, say, to a cattery in Lyme Regis or a cattery in Axminster.  Our catchment area also includes Seaton, Chard, Ilminster, Talaton, Feniton, Bluehayes, Whimple, Farringdon, Woodbury Salterton, Cowley, Pinhoe, Whipton, Broadclyst, Sowton, Heavitree, Brampford Speke, Offwell, Alfington and Cullompton.

Booking information

Things you need to know or do before booking

So, you have looked at our other web pages, and hopefully visited us to see for yourself, and now you want to make a booking.

If you know the dates of your cat’s stay, the easiest way to make a booking is to do it when you come to see why our cattery is so different.

If not, the first thing to do if you would like your cat to stay with us is to phone us to check availability, confirm the cost of the stay and to make a provisional booking.  Once you have confirmed that we have a room available for the dates you want, you will need to complete a Room Booking Request Form (which you can download here and print - or ask us to post you one) and send this back to us with your deposit (see below) of 25% of the total fee without which we cannot confirm your booking.  When this this is received either in cash or by post (cheque) then we will confirm your booking and we look forward to welcoming your cat for their stay!

We regret that at the present time we cannot accept debit or credit card payments.

Terms and Conditions

The unavoidable "small print"

Vaccination

Cats will only be accepted with current certificates of inoculation for Feline Infectious Enteritis and Cat Flu, dated no later than one year prior to the last day of your cats stay.  The Record Card proof of vaccination will be required and must accompany the cat on arrival.

Please get your cat vaccinated in good time.  The treatment must have been completed at least 10 days before the start date of boarding.  If this is your cat’s first vaccination or your annual vaccination programme has lapsed, then your cat may need two vaccinations three weeks apart - requiring a total of almost 5-weeks or more from the first vaccination before we can accept your cat.  If you are in this situation, you should seek advice from your vet.  If you are advised to restart the programme and your cat has only had the initial vaccination, we may not be able to accept it for boarding as there is a risk to both the partially vaccinated cat and all other cats in the cattery.

Unneutered males

Unneutered male cats will not be accepted for boarding except if they are less than 6 months old.

Peak Periods

To avoid disappointment early booking is advised for peak holiday periods that include July, August, Christmas, New Year, Easter and other school holiday periods.

Christmas and New Year

Boarding over Christmas and over New Year is subject to a 7 day minimum charge and we are not open on Christmas Eve afternoon, Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day for leaving or collecting you cat.

Booked days

A full day is charged for the day of arrival and departure to allow for essential cleaning and hygiene preparation of the unit.

Deposit

A deposit based on 25% of total booking is required to confirm the booking.  Balance of charges are payable at the start of the boarding period.  For long term boarders (over 1 month) interim payments can be agreed.

Payments

We accept payments either in cash, or where the payment is more than £50 by cheque.  We regret that we cannot yet take payment by credit or debit card due to the costs involved.

Cancellation

If in the event of cancellation of a confirmed booking (in part or for the full period) the full charge for the booking will be due if less than 14 days notice is given prior to start of stay.  You may be able to recover this charge on your holiday cancellation insurance where applicable.

Outside our normal opening hours

We ask our customers and other visitors to try to visit us during our standard opening hours, however if this is not possible then other times may be possible by prior arrangement.

Please note that we reserve the right to charge additional fees for unexpected delivery or collection outside our normal opening hours.

Cat Carriers

You must transport your cat(s) in a suitable secure pet carrier unit.  Please do not carry your cat in your arms or in any old box.  Any sudden movement, loud noise or bang could mean your cat might run off and this shall be totally the pet owner’s responsibility.

If you do not have a secure pet carrier please use our collection and delivery service. Alternative please ask, as we sometimes have new cat carriers available to buy.

Fleas and Worming

You should also check that your cat is treated against fleas and worms.

If we suspect that your cat has fleas or worms we will get it treated and, to avoid a risk of repeat treatment too soon, please indicate on the Booking Request Form whether it has had treatment in the last month or so.

Providing your own food

We carry a wide range of standard cat foods, however you are welcome to provide your own food for your cat, particularly if they are on a prescription diet from your vet, but if you do so there is no reduction in boarding fees.

Medication

All medication that accompanies cats must be clearly marked with the cat’s name, the dose rates and the type of medication, plus an explanation of the condition being treated.  We are happy to administer injected medication in the case of diabetic cats, but syringes and a sharps box must be supplied together with the insulin.

Medical Treatment

In the event that your cat becomes ill when boarding with us, we will immediately take them to a vet for assessment and treatment.  If reasonably possible (i.e. depending on availability and distance), we will take them to your own vet, otherwise to our cattery veterinary practice.

We have our own veterinary fee insurance for accidents or illnesses that occur whilst your cat is staying with us, however this does not cover pre-existing conditions (known or unknown), and you will be responsible for paying any veterinary fees which are not covered by our insurance.

Uncollected cats

Any cat left uncollected within 14 days of the date due to leave the cattery without communication from the pet owner or their representative will be handed to an animal charity at our discretion.

Unexpected Demise

In the unfortunate event a cat should die whilst staying at the cattery the owner or owner’s contact person will be advised.  The cat will be taken to the cattery veterinary surgery for the appropriate safe storage until the owners return, unless instructed otherwise.

Deemed Acceptance

By paying a deposit or boarding fee or by completing our Boarding Request Form, you will have deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.
