Keeping the cattery clean and hygienic

What’s New?
Happy New Year!

We would like to wish all of our 2011 customers a very happy New Year, and look forward to seeing you again in 2012.  2011 was a very busy year for us, with the Christmas period fully booked by early October (we could have filled a cattery twice the size), and bookings for 2012 are already growing steadily.  If you want to be sure of booking a room for your cat(s) when you go on holiday this year, please book early.

Thinking of paying by Cheque?

Due to the withdrawal of the cheque guarantee card and the cost of bank charges, we regret that we can no longer accept cheques for under £50.

Collection and Delivery

Because we are now so busy, we are sorry but we are no longer able to offer collection and delivery as a standard service.

Fairmile Cat Hotel
Luxury Cattery in East Devon

Are you looking for a cattery in Exeter?  Or perhaps a cattery in Honiton?  The Fairmile Cat Hotel is a luxury boarding cattery in Ottery St. Mary in the East Devon countryside providing a superior standard of accommodation, tasty nutritious meals and high quality personal service.  We would like to think that we are the best of all the local catteries in Devon.  Situated only a 1/2 mile from the A30 at Patteson's Cross, the Fairmile Cat Hotel is 1 mile north of Ottery St. Mary, 5 miles west of Honiton and only 12 miles east of Exeter.  So if you are looking for a cattery in Sidmouth or a cattery in Budleigh Salterton, we could be just what you would like to give your cat a great holiday.  Some of our customers recognise the quality of care we provide and came to us in preference, say, to a cattery in Lyme Regis or a cattery in Axminster.  Our catchment area also includes Seaton, Chard, Ilminster, Talaton, Feniton, Bluehayes, Whimple, Farringdon, Woodbury Salterton, Cowley, Pinhoe, Whipton, Broadclyst, Sowton, Heavitree, Brampford Speke, Offwell, Alfington and Cullompton.

Our Hygiene Regime

Keeping the place clean and hygienic

One of the main tenets of the regulations governing cattery construction states that all surfaces that an animal comes into contact with must be impervious so that they can be disinfected between cats in order to avoid transfer of diseases

We very much agree with this and, whilst such disease transfer is rare, we wanted to avoid this risk for your cat and so chose to have our new cattery built from µPVC rather than timber (which is intrinsically porous and cannot be recycled because of the long lasting possibilities of zoonotic disease transfer).  We also rejected the idea of a metal cattery because we wanted a peaceful, bright and cheerful environment for your cat to relax in, rather than something noisy and harsh which could cause them distress.  The µPVC is both recyclable and easy to clean as well as properly insulated which gives a much better energy saving.  It may seem odd that plastic is the greener option, but in this case it is proven fact!

Our cleaning regime is based around the use of industry leading Trigene Advance which is bactericidal, fungicidal, tubercoloidal, virucidal, sporicidal and amazingly also biodegradable!  Most importantly it is safe for use with cats which not all disinfectants are.  Each unit and furniture will be cleaned with the correct solution between our guests and spot cleaned where necessary during any cat’s stay.  Our own cattery bedding will also have this added to the wash to ensure there is no chance of cross infection.

This all sounds a bit daunting but in practice it is not at all clinical and smells of lavender!  And of course it also eliminates any scents left by previous guests which would create stress for your own cat.

Our floors are all tiled with a lovely non-slip ceramic tile for safety and easy clean properties rather than a bare concrete floor that you find in some cattery runs.  The non-slip is essential for those energetic games of chase the ping pong ball or catch the fish! (For me and the cats!)

Being Green

A lot of our waste will be recycled wherever possible - tins, foil, plastics, paper etc.  The messy clinical waste is disposed of properly by commercial contract.

But if your cat does feel ill

All in all we will be doing our utmost to ensure that your cat has a safe and trouble free stay with us, but if one of our guests does fall ill, we have secured the services of the same Veterinary Surgeon we trust our own animals to, Sandra Osborn of the Honiton Small Animal Veterinary Clinic.  We also have a separate unit set apart from the main cattery but identical in construction and facilities should any guest feel a little off colour and need to be just kept quiet and apart for a little while.
